A voice for those who are looking for theirs; Spiritual, WooWoo, musical memoirist, a woman of years and experience sending songs from the edge of an age.
Words in any form can shape a life. I have spent mine paying attention to which ones build and which ones break, with a B.S. and M.Ed. in writing and counseling sitting quietly behind the work. Two books, The Heart Remembers and Borderline, are both finally about the same thing: holding more than just a positive attitude through whatever life delivers next but also reaching for the growth inherent in every experience.
I have lived in the Big Bend since 1976, with long detours through Central and South America. My current passion is producing podcasts and songs that gather the memories and oral histories of the creative and brave souls who have found Brewster County and become part of its fabric.
Three pillars, one voice. Books on the shelf, conversations in your ears, songs in the desert air.
A trilogy that moves through joy, trauma, and the slow work of remembering who you are. We do not move to a ‘higher self.’ We are distracted from it.
The book that became an international incident, then a podcast, then a film in development. A true story of courage, justice, and the long road to making it stand up in public.
A memoir of growth through grief. The events that arrive uninvited, and the long work of finding yourself through them.
The next chapter, in development as both a manuscript and a documentary feature. The story behind the story, and what gets remembered when nobody is keeping score.
Short fiction and personal journal entries that sit between the books. Each one reflecting the power of people, especially of women, in determining the path of becoming who you are.
The story off the page. From an award-winning narrated podcast to a documentary feature in development, the work goes wherever the listener is.
Based on the book by the same name, the BORDERLINE podcast lets you hear directly from the people inside an international incident that changed more than a few lives. Listen closely.
An oral history of the people from the Crown Jewel of Texas. The voices, the stories, the memories of the Big Bend of Brewster County, gathered before they fade.
A documentary companion to the manuscript. Produced in partnership with Highway 118 and MollyLlama Studios. Director of photography attached, principal subjects on board.
The journey of the book continues onto the screen. A film adaptation of the true story is in development, carrying the same testimony into a new medium.
Speaking engagements on rape and sexual assault, on the courage to make a record, and on the long work of turning private testimony into public conversation. Available by inquiry.
A catalog of original songs, written and recorded in the Big Bend. New work in the studio now. The same voice that built the books, in a different key.
A working catalog of original songs written and recorded in the Big Bend. Mercy, forgiveness, and the long view from the porch, in lyric form.
New songs in production. Acoustic-forward, voice, mandolin, and guitar at the center, recorded with the same patience the books require.
Live appearances, book signings, public speaking, and music performance. Inquiries from venues, festivals, libraries, retreats, and private events welcome.
